Authorship and Contribution Policy

Asian Journal of Qualitative Research (AJQR) follows transparent and responsible authorship practices. Authorship should accurately reflect substantial scholarly contributions to the research and manuscript.

1. Criteria for Authorship

An individual should be listed as an author when they have made a substantial contribution to the research and have participated meaningfully in the preparation of the manuscript.

Author contributions may include substantial involvement in:

  • Conception or design of the research

  • Development of the research methodology

  • Collection, analysis, or interpretation of research data or evidence

  • Development of substantial intellectual content

  • Drafting the manuscript

  • Critically revising the manuscript for important intellectual content

  • Reviewing and approving the final version for publication

All listed authors should take responsibility for their contributions and should be able to identify their respective contributions to the work.

2. Author Approval

All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before publication.

Submission of a manuscript to AJQR should indicate that all listed authors have agreed to the submission and to the order in which their names are presented, unless an alternative arrangement has been explicitly communicated to the journal.

3. Corresponding Author

The corresponding author is responsible for communicating with the journal during the submission, review, revision, and publication processes.

The corresponding author should ensure that:

  • All authors have approved the submitted manuscript.

  • Author information is accurate.

  • Required declarations are provided.

  • Communication from the journal is appropriately shared with the co-authors.

  • Any approved changes to the manuscript or authorship are communicated to all affected authors.

4. Author Order

The order of authors should be agreed upon by all authors before submission.

AJQR does not normally determine the order of authors. Any dispute concerning author order should be resolved among the authors or, where necessary, through their relevant institution.

5. Contributors Who Do Not Qualify for Authorship

Individuals who provide assistance that does not meet the journal's authorship criteria should not be listed as authors solely because they provided administrative, technical, editorial, language, financial, or other support.

Where appropriate, such contributions may be acknowledged in an Acknowledgements section.

6. Changes to Authorship

Requests to add, remove, or reorder authors after submission must include a clear justification.

The journal may require written confirmation from all affected authors before approving an authorship change.

Changes to authorship after acceptance or publication will be considered only in exceptional circumstances and may require additional verification.

7. Ghost, Guest, and Gift Authorship

AJQR does not permit:

  • Ghost authorship: excluding individuals who made substantial qualifying contributions.

  • Guest authorship: listing individuals who did not make a qualifying contribution.

  • Gift or honorary authorship: granting authorship solely because of status, position, seniority, or personal relationship.

8. Acknowledgements

Individuals who contributed to the research or manuscript but do not meet the criteria for authorship may be acknowledged with their permission.

Financial, institutional, technical, language, research-assistance, or other relevant support should be disclosed where appropriate.

9. Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

Artificial intelligence tools, including generative AI systems, cannot be listed as authors.

AI tools do not possess the ability to accept responsibility for a manuscript, disclose conflicts of interest, approve a final version, or take accountability for the integrity of published research.

Authors remain fully responsible for any content generated or assisted by AI tools and must comply with the journal's AI Policy.

10. Authorship Disputes

AJQR does not ordinarily adjudicate disputes concerning authorship contribution or author order.

Where a dispute arises, the journal may request clarification or documentation from the authors and may refer the matter to the relevant institution where appropriate.

Publication may be delayed while a significant authorship dispute is being addressed.

11. Author Responsibility

By submitting a manuscript, authors confirm that the authorship information provided to the journal is accurate to the best of their knowledge and that all listed authors have agreed to the submission.

The journal reserves the right to investigate suspected inappropriate authorship practices and to take appropriate action where concerns are substantiated.

12. Contribution Statements

Where required by the journal, authors may be asked to provide a contribution statement describing the role of each author in the research and manuscript preparation.

Contribution statements may be published with the article or retained as part of the journal's editorial record.
